She also noted early on that the Predator's laser sights on its mask would send the projectiles he fired directly to where the lasers pointed. Naru knew her location well, as she had recently escaped from a mud pit nearby the trappers camp earlier in the film. Naru completes her rite of passage in becoming a warrior for her people, taking on something far more fearsome than they could have ever imagined in the Prey ending, which takes care to leave the door open for more battles to come. Midthunder's Naru reveals herself to be the smartest of her fellow warriors, as she studies her adversary in a way that the Predator in Prey studies its own targets. Related: How The Predator Is Different In Prey To The Original MovieĪs the Predator in Prey is slowly revealed, taking on the likes of snakes, wolves, bears, Comanche warriors, French trappers - and, ultimately, Naru - it becomes evident that a balance is beginning to shift between predator and prey. When the Predator arrives and begins killing the creatures of the land, including humans, Naru is the only one to suspect it to be the work of something they haven't seen before, which sets her on the path to discover and destroy it. Naru's brother, Taabe (Dakota Beavers), believes in his sister, even as he doubts her resolve to become a warrior. ![]() Naru is a Comanche who feels the call to being a hunter within her tribe, but is hindered by the traditional role she's meant to take. 1/15/2024 0 Comments Ariel phenomena movie![]() Premiering and for purchase at įans can now watch and own the film for only $9.99 on ITunes/Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video US/UK, Google Play/YouTube, and of course on the above website, (for $7.99 rental / $8.99 own ). But with no less an august figure as UFO expert Dan Aykroyd offering his praise for Ariel Phenomenon, it’s well worth a recommend to those inclined to watch. My readers will know that it’s easy to scoff, and I often do when the source material is weak. Like Mack and Leach, she finds her interest in the UFO/UAP subject risks ridicule, but this film takes a sober approach that adds credibility to what primary sources offer. Mack is heavily featured here, patiently interviewing the children and unable to dismiss their accounts sadly both men died comparatively young, and can’t contribute in anything other than archive material, but in their original interviews they speak well for themselves.Īriel Phenomenon also feels a little like an alternative version of Michael Apted’s 28 Up, in which we return to the children as adults, and in particular artist Emily Trim who returns to Zimbabwe to meet up with her old teachers and return to the site of the event. ![]() Ariel Phenomenon doubles down on this by featuring Harvard professor Dr John Mack, and BBC war reporter Tim Leach, pragmatic experts who suffered considerable ignominy for admitting that they couldn’t explain what the children saw. They’re very much the kind of creatures that we’ve seen in fiction, but it’s hard to rationalise exactly what happened the children’s accounts are remarkably similar but not so much as to suggest any kind of collusion.Ī Tear in The Sky highlighted the social stigma about claiming to be the witness to a UFO sighting, or a UAP (Unidentified Ariel Phenomenon) as we call them today. Over sixty schoolchildren in Zimbabwe claim to have witnessed a space-ship land, and described two figures whose faces were white and eyes were black. Randall Nickerson’s Ariel Phenomenon is exactly what you might hope for a detailed, credible and thought-provoking look at a mysterious incident back in 1994 that’s hard to explain away, although there’s no actual primary footage to analyse or discredit. I heard he had to fly back and forth several times. Malaria, dengue fever, tuberculosis, corrupt officials asking for bribes, missing luggage, 100 degree heat with no Aircon, etc etc. Sure, there’s plenty of filler docs all over your streaming services, but many of them are just clip-reels of murky public domain footage if the truth is out there, there has to be some compelling documentary material to engage those who want to believe. The pilot told me these planes are banned from EU airspace because of their poor safety record. But it's definitely a good watch if you're a UFO buff.A review of UFO documentary A Tear in The Sky unexpectedly turned out to be the most popular review of the month on this website there’s clearly a lot of interest out there in who or what might be visiting our planet. It would have been nice if more of the former students could have been in it as adults now because I think those were the best parts. But it's a good doc even if you know the story and have seen clips of the kids before. Gill, an Anglican missionary, saw a space ship in Papua New Guinea and he didn't seem freaked out at all. Although perhaps not all religions are as closed-minded because in 1959, Father William B. I've always suspected that religious people would have their worlds rocked by an ET encounter but this proved just how much it upset them because they wouldn't even let their kids talk about it and they moved back to Canada as soon as it happened (they had been sent to Africa by the Salvation Army to do religious work). The other disturbing part was how the very religious parents of one of the girls (Emily Trim), reacted to the incident. As someone in the doc says, you can believe in God and angels etc., at Harvard, but not in ET life. Mack a hard time which I had not known about. Campo Santo's Firewatch and Nomada Studios' Gris are both excellent, emotional indie adventures that garnered critical acclaim in the year since their release. To start with the positive, all four games coming to the service during the rest of August are pretty solid. Unfortunately, the number of games leaving at the end of the month is greater than the number of games coming, and one of the games exiting the service is Immortality, one of Digital Trends' favorite games of 2023. That list includes four solid indie titles, two of which are day-one Xbox Game Pass releases. Its predecessor, 2019’s Remnant: From the Ashes, is also available via Xbox Game Pass now if you want to see where this series began. It’s also a looter shooter with rougelite elements, so if you’re looking for a new game that will keep you engaged for dozens of hours during the holidays, this sleeper hit is a great choice. In particular, we praised the game’s compelling boss design as well as its first DLC pack for going bigger and bolder in scope. Although it flew under the radar before release, Remnant II was a surprise hit, selling 2 million copies within two months of launch. Remnant II is a multiversal Soulslike shooter that was released on PC and consoles in July. The best part is that it hit the service today. Some titles are hitting Microsoft’s subscription service the day they launch over the next couple of weeks, but the biggest standout in this group of games is one of 2023’s biggest sleeper hits: Remnant 2 from Gunfire Games and Gearbox Entertainment. The game keeps track of the statistics of the last nine surgeries and introduces new achievements. Next to overall fixes, the game has an updated visual style. This version carries over the additions introduced in the mobile device version of the game, such as the eye and teeth operations, as well as the new environment where you operate on a rolling trolley through the hospital corridors. Just like the original game, the player is a surgeon who operates on patient Bob with gameplay heavily based on physics and a humorous undertone. For the PS4, it is the first version of the game. This release is an updated version of the PC game Surgeon Simulator 2013. 1/14/2024 0 Comments Still into you lyrics year madeThe case dominated news and conversation for months as an elementary schooler living in a Boston suburb at the time, I probably heard more about Chuck Stuart in those days than about Larry Bird and Roger Clemens combined. It’s hard to overstate what a cataclysmic episode this was in the region. The following morning, Charles Stuart jumped off the Tobin Bridge, leaving behind a self-pitying suicide note that claimed he’d been “sapped of strength” by an unspecified “new accusation.” 3, 1990, Stuart’s brother Matthew went to the police and confessed that Charles had shot both Carol and himself and staged it to look like a robbery, enlisting Matthew’s help to dispose of the gun and Carol’s jewelry. All the while, the city’s newspapers and TV stations played up a sensational narrative of Black violence and white victimhood: Bennett’s arrest was covered as though it were a conviction, while the Boston Herald referred to the Stuarts as the “ Camelot couple.” Once Charles Stuart had sufficiently recovered, he promptly identified Bennett-whose image had been plastered over newspaper and television coverage for weeks-as his wife’s murderer. The police focused on a revolving door of suspects, even briefly arresting one, Alan Swanson, before settling on William Bennett, a 39-year-old resident of Roxbury, as the Stuarts’ likely assailant. ![]() A weekslong manhunt effectively terrorized large segments of Boston’s Black population Mission Hill community leaders estimated that, at the height of the search, more than 150 stop-and-frisk searches were conducted each day. Both the Boston police and, soon, the Boston media took Stuart’s version of events at face value, convulsing a city that was already mired in a panic over crime and that was little more than a decade removed from the appalling racial violence of the busing protests of the 1970s. ![]() Inpaint photo restoration software reconstructs the selected image area from the pixels near the area boundary. I myself have probably eaten enough fried chicken to feed a third world country, not to mention barbecue, cornbread, watermelon, fried pies, okra and yes, if I were being perfectly candid, I would have to admit we have also eaten our share of crow. We’ve certainly all had our share of grits, and I’m sure there are no self-respecting Southerners anywhere who haven’t consumed at least several tons of their mamas’ homemade biscuits and gravy. “Just tell him that I’ve been a Southerner all my life, and I can vouch for the fact that we do eat a lot of things down here. ![]() After inquiring whether the secretary she’s speaking with can take shorthand, she delivers the following message: She calls the writer at the Times but is not allowed to speak to him. In the episode, Julia Sugarbaker happens onto a story in The New York Times about people in the South eating dirt. 5, 1988, I settled into a big chair in my apartment in Brooklyn to watch “Designing Women,” as we did most Thursday nights. I felt compelled to tell her my own little story about the arrival of “Southern Practice of Eating Dirt Shows Signs of Waning.” She told me stories about the slights she’d encountered as a young Ozark woman who had arrived in Los Angeles in 1977 to teach school in the impoverished Watts neighborhood. Channels sent me to Los Angeles to interview Linda Bloodworth-Thomason, the creator of “Designing Women” and arguably the first bitter Southerner who ever aired her grievances on a network sitcom, primarily through the voice of a character named Julia Sugarbaker.ĭuring our interview, I asked Bloodworth-Thomason what motivated her to create a show that purposefully skewered stereotypes of the ignorant Southerner. But I had bought “Elvis Wept” with my own money (and some of Jeffry’s), and by God, it was coming with me. The power of the Southern thing had overcome them, I suppose. Oddly enough, some of my New York co-workers protested. When I left Adweek in early 1988, I took “Elvis Wept” down from where Marty had hung it on the newsroom wall. We packaged it up and mailed it to Marty, and after Adweek moved me to New York late that year, Marty and I overcame our cultural grudges and became friends. ![]() We found a beauty - the King in profile, a tear running down his cheek - to which we added a small nameplate that read, “Elvis Wept,” our own snarky little riff on John 11:35.
